Cairndhu was founded in 1928 as Larne Town and moved to Cairndhu in 1958. It is of Ireland's most scenic courses and is known to be a particular favourite of Northern Irishman Darren Clarke. From the third tee, which is 200ft above sea level, beware of the hazardous valley on the right and rocks in front-and your drive has to carry 175 yards to the fairway. This may be the most difficult hole but it is also the most stunning. Take time to admire the view-and get your breath back.
Although tough if the wind blows, Cairndhu is exceptionally fair and there are four short-ish par fours that provide the ample opportunity to pick up shots that may have been lost elsewhere.
