If you arrive in Ireland at Shannon Airport, you shouldn't have too many problems finding Shannon Golf Club as it's only 500 yards away. It was one of the few courses built in the country in the 1960s and the designer, John Harris, has done a fine job. Indeed, it is hard to believe at times that you are so close to a busy airport.
It's a relatively flat course, so if you like to play somewhere that it's easy on the legs, then this course is definitely for you. The Shannon Estuary is visible from a number of holes before it comes firmly into play at a dramatic 17th hole. Visitors are welcome but the club advise that it is worth pre-booking.
