Situated 15km south of Portlaoise in Co. Laois, Abbeyleix Golf Club has earned a reputation as one of the best courses in the Irish Midlands since it was extended to 18 holes. The club was founded back in 1895 and it was renowned for its soil-based greens.
Those greens were retained in the new lay-out while the new greens are also soil-based, creating a consistency over the 18 holes. The new course was designed by Mel Flanigan and he has delivered a fair test of golf for players of differing abilities. This is a very scenic golf club and one which provides the warmest of welcomes to the visiting golfer.
