A decision by the Golfing Union of Ireland was made to name the trophy after the five-time champion, who sadly past away in December last year.
Kelly, who won the last of five titles at Enniscrone in 2018, was a prolific winner throughout his senior's career.
At international level, Kelly played 99 times for Ireland.
"Maurice Kelly was such a great competitor and it is only fitting that the Union has honoured his memory by putting his name on the Irish Seniors Close Trophy," said Mark Wehrly, Championships Manager of the GUI.
