Founded in 1893, Birr Golf Club, which is situated in County Offaly, is one of the finest parkland courses in Ireland.
Originally part of the estate of the Earl of Rosse, it's an 18-hole course which measures 6357 yards and has a par and standard scratch of 70. The course has been carved out of natural woodlands and the undulating fairways and dry sod are reminiscent of many of Ireland's famous links courses.
Due to good drainage and a mild climate, golf is possible all year round. Many of the holes are laid out in attractive avenues and valleys, none more so than the short but difficult tenth which runs alongside the clubhouse.
