Dawson drought ends at Irish Amateur Open

Tramore's Robin Dawson finally tasted success after a five-year wait as he held his nerve to win

Tramore's Robin Dawson finally tasted success after a five-year wait as he held his nerve to win the Flogas Irish Amateur Open by four shots. The 22-year-old survived final day drama on the back nine at Royal County Down, as he started the day with a six-stroke lead but saw that halved with a triple bogey at the 15th. Thankfully, it didn't derail his round as he lifted his first title since the 2013 Irish Boys Championship. "I can finally relax now," he said. "I have just been knocking on the door for so long. It was nice to do it over four rounds, especially at a venue like Royal County Down."
