Former Open champion Nick Faldo is a big fan of Mount Juliet Golf Club, which staged the Irish Open three years running in the mid-90s.
Faldo won one of them and fell in love with the place, the English star being particularly impressed by the condition of the course. It was designed by another golfing legend, Jack Nicklaus, and he certainly made excellent use of the land deep in the Co Kilkenny countryside. The course is laid out in stunning parkland with water coming into play at a number of holes and the stretch from the 11th to the 14th are as good as you'd find anywhere else in the world.
